Infection Prevention Specialist
Alegent Health, Omaha, NE

Participate in a dynamic, supportive and growing team in the Omaha metro area as an Infection Prevention Specialist.

This position is 40 hours per week, salaried, and requires weekend call coverage. Some travel to sites around the metro and regional area required.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Perform infection surveillance activities to identify opportunities for improvement. Report findings and recommendations to the appropriate committees, individuals or outside agencies as appropriate/required. Collaborate with infectious disease physicians, environment of care Safety Officers and Occupational Health staff in investigations, studies and other activities related to the improvement in infection prevention practices. Collaborate with local and national regulatory agencies in response to community and national events such as bioterrorism, community outbreaks and natural disasters.

QUALIFICATIONS Experience

• Four years of progressive clinical experience as a healthcare professional

• One year experience in Infection Control and Joint Commission accreditation processes is preferred.

• Strong emphasis on critical thinking and process improvement principles and strategies or any comparable combination of experience.

Education/Licensure Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in health care field, BSN preferred, with current unencumbered nursing licensure.

• Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or realization within 4 years of hire.

Preferred: Masters in Nursing or Health Related Field

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Must possess substantial understanding of Infection Prevention principles and practices, strong knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and professional standards.

• Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively and work successfully with medical staff members.

• Strong communication skills and very strong planning skills are required.

• Facilitation skills are required and applicant must demonstrate personal traits including: high level of motivation, team orientation, professionalism, trust and place a high value on treating others with dignity and respect.

MDRO and Pan Flu Coordinator
Omaha
VA Medical Center

JOB SUMMARY:

 

A full-time RN position is available at the Omaha VA for a Multi-Drug Resistant Organism (MDRO) and Pandemic Flu Prevention Coordinator.  A particular focus will be to identify and eliminate exposure of patients and staff to the transfer of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), in accordance with VHA Directive 2007-002. The MDRO and Pandemic Flu Prevention Coordinator is administratively responsible to the Chief, Infectious Diseases.
